Ginkbo Biloba herb is
one of the most widely prescribed herbals in Europe. It may be effective in
preventing or treating many of the conditions that increasingly affect us as we
age. It improves blood circulation and may decrease the risk of stroke and
heart attacks. It may help increase peripheral circulation and improve
oxidation of the blood which in turn improves memory and reaction time.
Gingko Leaf
Aids memory and concentration by helping
circulation in the brain, particularly for seniors. Is used to treat dementia.
It's also an antidepressant, helps to prevent strokes and thrombus, and
relieves tinnitus. Taken by many multiple sclerosis sufferers. |

Science at the University of Massachusetts conducted a study on ginkgo leaf
extract for the treatment of tinnitus and found that it may be
effective, particularly with other herbs such as
hawthorne.

The compounds found in ginkgo
believed to have an effect on cognition include flavonoids, biflavonoids,
proanthocyanidins, trilactonic diterpenes (ginkgolide A, B, and C), and
trilactonic sesquiterpene (Fleming, 1998).
Gingko Biloba has a unique
ability to inhibit a process called platelet activity factor (PAF) which plays
a major role in many of your body's processes such as blood flow and blood
clots. By blocking PAF, ginkgo exhibits tremendous healing
possibilities.
The dried leaves are the part of the plant used
medicinally.
Recommended Dosage: 120 mg of dried extract taken orally 2
or 3 times daily
Because of Ginkgo's
PAF-inhibiting quality, it is not an appropriate herbal remedy for those with
blood clotting disorders. It is essential to follow the dosage directions
on commercial ginkgo remedies. Large quantities can cause negative side
effects.
